R&E Leadership

A premier strategic convening where U.S. and international research and higher education leaders confront the forces reshaping their institutions and set the community's collective direction.

The 2027 Internet2 Global Summit (previously named Internet2 Community Exchange) is a premier annual convening of research and higher education (R&E) leadership. It is one of the defining gatherings of our community, where strategy is shaped, policy is debated, and the future of the R&E ecosystem is defined. Global Summit is where leaders and their teams come to decide what comes next.

Global Summit operates at the intersection of vision and accountability - where institutional and organizational leaders move beyond awareness of trends into active deliberation about how the community responds. Every session, conversation, and collaboration at Global Summit is oriented toward the questions that matter most to this audience: What should we do? How should the R&E community collectively position itself? And how do we work together to get there?

Focused on high-level strategy, policy, and discussions with national and global appeal rather than technical execution, Global Summit complements the Internet2 Technology Exchange, held each fall, which addresses how to implement the strategies and commitments Global Summit helps produce.

Shared Future. Collective Strength

The research and higher education (R&E) community is navigating complex and rapidly evolving challenges and strategic decisions. No institution or organization within the global R&E ecosystem is doing it alone. Budget pressures, AI disruption, data governance challenges, shifting national policy, and a rapidly evolving interconnected infrastructure landscape are creating real uncertainty for institutions of all sizes across that ecosystem. These are not challenges that will be solved in isolation. They will be navigated collectively through shared strategies, shared infrastructure, timely dialogue, and the kind of deep, trust-based collaboration that only this R&E community makes possible.

Connecting and convening the full breadth of the R&E community is what Internet2 does best, strategically guiding everything we build, every service we provide, and every community we serve. The 2027 Internet2 Global Summit brings together U.S. and global leaders, institutions, and organizations of every size, from regional education hubs to global research collaborations. This is the gathering where shared challenges become shared solutions, where Internet2’s future strategic vision meets the R&E community it was built to serve, and where we define together the path that carries us all forward.
