Certificate management has entered a period of significant change. Shorter certificate lifetimes, evolving industry requirements, and the growing need for automation are pushing campuses to reconsider existing practices. With the InCommon Certificate Service platform transition behind us, we convene to address these dimensions of change that your institution will experience differently depending on staffing, infrastructure, and technical maturity. At many campuses, certificate management is not owned by a single team or role. Instead, resourceful staff step in, develop the knowledge they need, and keep essential services running. The goal is the same across the board: make certificate management reliable, manageable, repeatable and as low stakes as possible.
