If you're adventurous, have a 600mhz or better PC running
Windows 2000 or Windows XP, and you have at least a 30
mbps connection to Abilene, you can watch the Virtual Briefing using
a DVTS client!
You can find the client here, which
will need to be installed on the designated PC. It will decode
the DV stream being multicast from Ann Arbor.
To setup the DVTS client to receive this stream:
select "Receive" in the menu bar, then select "Join
Multicast"
enter the following multicast address in the "Input
Multicast Address" text box: 233.45.17.50
leave the "Interface Address" text box empty, just
click the "Okay" button
select "Receive" in the menu
bar, then select "Start
Receiving"
If everything went well, and you're on a capable machine
with a capable network, you should see the DV video & hear
the audio. Please do not use the "Send" menubar
options (you'll likely crash your machine, congest
your network, and force us to hunt you down like a rabid
dog).
We'll be having a test stream available, so if you'd like
to test and you have problems, don't call - send email to bdr@internet2.edu.
Remember this is a BETA stream! If it doesn't
work or work well for you, please use one of the more reliable
tools to view the Virtual Briefing.
If you're interested in participating and exploring this
sort of stuff, please send an email to info@researchchannel.org
to join the Internet2/ResearchChannel
working
group
and associated
mailing
lists.
