    End-to-End Performance Measurement Systems

    While current technology to assess network performance characteristics is quite primitive, there is work under way to provide tools and infrastructure that will allow us to better understand performance issues. The February Virtual Briefing will focus on current activities to determine performance capabilities in end-to-end environments and current research in new measurement systems.

    Technical Goals for this Briefing are to:

    • Use Vbrick for DVD-quality video
    • Use Microsoft Media encoder for side-by-side video and slides with automatic multicast/unicast failover
    • Use Ncast for side-by-side video and slides (Quicktime, multicast only)
    • Use in-band scan-converted slides as appropriate
    • Use Streaming Genie Titler
    • Test upgraded Knox video switcher

    Interactive:

  • H.323 Videoconferencing via the Commons MCU

  •       (H.323 with H.263 video at 768K only (384K on special request))
    • Conference connection information:
      1. Register with a GDS Gatekeeper. (If you need to, you can borrow space on the Commons GDS Gatekeeper.)
