Educause Net2002 Panel: Strategic Policy Issues of Broadband to the Home and Last-Mile Connectivity to the Campus

There has been a fierce national debate about whether the federal government should help facilitate the deployment of broadband technologies or rely on market forces alone. Consumer reluctance to pay higher costs for broadband services raises two questions: Why do we need broadband to the home, and what is driving demand for broadband services? Panelists will discuss what they see as driving broadband deployment, the potential for federal government intervention, and how higher education can drive this market.
