Software Defined Networking: The computer industry profits from the clean separation of hardware capability and the software providing a multitude of services, separated by a relatively stable and minimal interface. Support for efficient and secure 'slicing' (virtualisation) opened the door for new business models and allowed the creation of new services on top of services provided and managed by others. The need to do the same for network equipment is increasingly driven by the new challenges posed by massive data centers. This focus area is soliciting practitioners of SDN to present their experiences, exchange ideas, and openly discuss challenges and opportunities.
Emerging Technologies: This focal area is interested in talks related to:
- Grid and Cloud Computing, including use of commercial services for R&D efforts
- Deploying Net+ Services
- Distributed network testbeds, including the NSF funded GENI project
- Identity Management
- Home Broadband Measurement and Expansion
Other topics will be considered. In progress use and research of network or middleware technology are encouraged to submit.
Enhancing Infrastructure Support for Data Intensive Science: This area will bring together community experts to describe some successful example implementations for specific scientific projects, quantify the challenges and obstacles faced by most organizations involved in the projects, and shape the discussion on how to establish both best practices and community-wide policies to allow all scientific disciplines at the country's top research universities to overcome the obstacles in their path, preventing them moving data in the most efficacious manner. This topic area is accepting ONLY solicited proposals. A draft agenda is available HERE.Lightning Talks: A 20-minute slot is offered on Wednesday morning for various Lightning Talks. A Lightning Talk is a sub-5-minute talk on a topic of your choice -– anything interesting, timely, or even a bit off the wall. Proposals are solicited both before and during the workshop; successful candidates will be informed on Tuesday before the Reception. Slides are welcome but not required. Submissions may be sent to: jt-lightning-talks@internet2.edu
