  • Session Evaluation
Session Abstract Matt Davy (IU) hosts and moderates a panel of Industry Partners involved in the OpenFlow/SDN arena: NEC, Juniper, Brocade, and Cisco. Each will provide a brief update on work they've been doing and, at the end, Matt will moderate a 10-minute Q&A session.

NEC: OpenFlow enabled network fabrics solve many challenges that arise in traditional network designs. We will review several OpenFlow deployments and talk about what’s ahead.

Juniper: As SDNs become increasingly pervasive, it is anticipated that platforms hosting, supporting and interoperating with said networks will be heterogeneous. SDNs may comprise multiple nodes running operating systems of varying versions, configurations, services, and capabilities. Though emerging software networks may conform to published standards, software network implementations and the services they support, will likely be implemented with a wide array of software languages and development platforms. Further, software networks will be integrated with operational application services infrastructure to support a comprehensive software controlled cloud. Therefore, orchestration, management, control plane, and data plane services, require interoperability and integration with many development environments, applications, and distributed target platforms. Juniper Networks will present a suite of existing and emerging software development tools that addresses the challenge of supporting the SDN paradigm.

Brocade: The presentation will talk about the (predictable) gap between the eventual promise of OpenFlow/SDN and today’s reality, and how that gap is currently being addressed within the ONF community. It will also cover Brocade’s perspective on OpenFlow/SDN, and give a brief high-level picture of what Brocade is working on in Engineering.

Cisco: OpenFlow and Software Defined Networking holds great promise for the enterprise, data center, and SP segments. In this talk we describe what OF/SDN is, how it is being standardized, and how OF/SDN differs from other "network programability" initiatives (such as SDNP in the IETF). Finally we will describe Cisco's approach to OF/SDN and the products and services we envision that will leverage OF/SDN.
