Network Story

The Fall 2008 Member Meeting is a showcase for the collaborative efforts of its members. The network for our meeting, which features four gigabits of external connectivity, owes its success to numerous member contributions. Four metro ethernet 1GE circuits were provisioned from the Sheraton to the LONI POP at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Two of these circuits support general wired and wireless connectivity, videoconferencing, netcasting, and the demonstration area. The other two circuits are connected to the Internet2 Dynamic Circuit Network, and will be used for demonstrations during the general sessions.

The wired LAN consists of Hewlett-Packard and Cisco ethernet switches. Most locations are served using the hotel's existing copper infrastructure. Single-mode fiber was installed to support the demonstration area and the general session ballroom. The wireless LAN is leveraging the Sheraton's infrastructure, with a few additional APs added to fill in coverage gaps.

Internet2 would like to thank the organizations that made the network for our Member Meeting possible. Louisiana State University provided network engineering, deployment, equipment, and support. LONI provided Internet2 and commodity network connectivity. Hewlett-Packard provided Procurve ethernet switches. AT&T expedited our metro ethernet circuit orders, and fulfilled them well ahead of schedule. The Sheraton New Orleans provided wireless infrastructure and engineering support. SKC Communications provided H.323 videoconferencing endpoints.

Our thanks go out to all of these organizations!
