The Sheraton New Orleans Hotel is located on historic Canal Street, overlooking the Mississippi River, the French Quarter and Harrah's Casino, and is a short walk from Bourbon Street, the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center, the Aquarium of the Americas, IMAX Theater, Riverwalk Marketplace, all the world-famous restaurants and live music clubs of the Vieux Carré.  More information on the hotel location is available here.

We are working with our hosts and the hotel to continuously monitor the weather in New Orleans, and any impact it might have on the meeting. Should it become necessary to implement alternative plans, we will contact registered participants and information will be posted on this page.

Reservation method: Reservations for this event are to be made by individual attendees directly with the Sheraton New Orleans at 888-627-7033 or using the hotel website.

Guarantee and cancellation policy
A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to hold each guest’s reservation.  Such deposit shall serve to confirm the reservation for the dates indicated, and, upon check-in, shall be applied to the first night of the reserved stay.  These deposits paid by individuals are refundable if notice is received at least seventy-two (72) hours prior to arrival and a cancellation number is obtained.

Early Departure Fee
In the event that a guest who has reserved a guest room within the Group’s guest room block checks out prior to the guest’s reserved checkout date, an early departure fee of one night’s room plus tax will be charged to that guest’s individual account.  Guests wishing to avoid this fee must advise Hotel at or before check-in of any change in the scheduled length of stay.  Hotel will inform Group of this fee upon check-in.

Each of the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel’s 1,110 guest rooms and 53 suites has a balance of warm, designer-inspired style and classic New Orleans charm.  Each room offers unparalleled comfort too, thanks in large part to our top-of-the-line Sweet Sleeper Beds.  All rooms are equipped with coffee makers with complimentary coffee, color cable TV with in-room movies and video games (fee), Starwood Turbo Net High Speed Internet Access (fee), in room safes, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, telephone voicemail, video checkout, room service, and dual line telephones.

Guests can cap off their night in grand style with a cocktail at our Pelican Bar. Beautiful and enchanting, the Pelican Bar is reminiscent of a lavish French Quarter courtyard. The Sheraton New Orleans Hotel even has its own Starbucks Coffee Store, so you can kick start your day with a cup of gourmet coffee and perhaps a tasty offering from the Starbucks bakery.

Transportation and Parking
New Orleans Airport Shuttle offers service between the Sheraton New Orleans and Louis Armstrong International Airport for $15. Call 504-522-3500 for information.

Should you need a cab, our Doorman will be happy to assist you. Also, the hotel is located right on the Streetcar line. Streetcars provide transit along Canal Street and up St. Charles Avenue. Cost: $1.50.
You can also arrange for an informative tour of the French Quarter, or a bus tour of other parts of the area at the Grayline Tour desk located in our lobby.
Parking: Valet parking service is available on a first come first serve basis (spaces are limited). Vehicles are secured in a covered garage adjacent to the hotel. Overnight parking rate for cars is $30.18 including tax.

Please indicate that your travel is for the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting in New Orleans, LA.  The discounts will apply to travel into and out of New Orleans (MSY) and apply to Northwest and Northwest Airlink Partners. Travel dates eligible for discounts are October 10 through October 19, 2008.   The discounts will only apply to airfares that are $200.00 or greater per airline policy.

Rates are available from October 6 through October 21 2008, guaranteed and include unlimited free mileage.  Return to the same renting location or additional surcharges may apply. Weekend daily rates are available from noon Thursday through 11:59 PM ET Monday (vehicle must be checked out by 3:00 PM Sunday).

Should a lower qualifying rate become available at the time of booking, Avis is pleased to offer a 5% discount off the lower qualifying rate or the meeting rate, whichever is lowest. The attendee must use the assigned Meeting Avis Discount Number and meet Avis rate requirements to receive the discount. (Rate discounts are available at all corporate and participating licensee locations.) Area Attractions
The entire city is easily accessible from the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel.  The convention center is minutes away.  Also within walking distance, you’ll find the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the IMAX Theatre, the National D-Day Museum, Harrah's New Orleans Casino and such popular shopping destinations as Canal Place, Riverwalk Marketplace and JAX Brewery.  And the hotel is located on the New Orleans Streetcar line, so you can catch a breezy, relaxing ride up Canal Street to City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

The paragraph below represents the hurricane policy for the Sheraton New Orleans hotel.

Hurricane season extends from June 1st through November 30th each year.  In the event of a hurricane* in the Gulf of Mexico with New Orleans as a projected path, the Sheraton New Orleans will not be accepting new reservations, and the hotel may be subject to closure or evacuation.  In the event of evacuation, the hotel will attempt to contact future guests to notify them of the situation and their reservation will be canceled without penalty.  Guests that are staying at the hotel when an evacuation order is called will be transported to the airport, where air transportation will need to be arranged by the guest.  During the affected period, we will waive cancellation and no-show charges.  Please contact the hotel for more details.

*A hurricane is defined/validated by the National Hurricane Center, typically a tropical cyclone in which the maximum sustained surface wind is 74 mph (64 knots) or greater.
