Call for Track Session Proposals
The Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting provides the community an opportunity to share the latest information on timely issues and rapidly evolving areas of interest. The fall program will offer sessions that highlight innovative uses of advanced networking for research and teaching, as well as technical sessions on the development and evolution of high-performance network infrastructures in support of local to global cyberinfrastructure. Sessions will focus on initiatives and projects that explore ways in which advanced network applications, services, tools, and digital content empower and enhance the capability of research and education communities. In addition, the program will focus on the challenges of Business Continuity Planning and the progress of Health Science and Teaching and Learning/K20 initiatives. Case studies of how advanced networking has succeeded in enabling research and education, why, and what others can learn from this success are also encouraged.
The Member Meeting Program Committee is now accepting proposals for track sessions at the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting, which will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, LA October 13-16, 2008.
Full explanations and examples of related topics, as well as the submission form, are provided in the Call for Proposals web page.

Call for Side Meetings
One of the many benefits of member meetings is the opportunity to hold small working meetings (e.g. working groups, BoFs, SIGS, etc.). in conjunction with the formal meeting activities. In order to accommodate the requests for these side meetings, we will reserve incremental hotel space at times outside of the normal track sessions. To aid us in handling and filling your requests for these additional meetings, we are issuing a Call for Side Meetings with a deadline of July 11, 2008.
Meetings will be accepted based on space availability and we will attempt to accommodate all requests on a first come, first serve basis. Please Note: Side meetings should be open to all Internet2 Member Meeting attendees. If you need to schedule an invitation-only or closed meeting, Internet2 will reserve a room for you. However, you will be responsible for notifying people about the meeting yourself and you must provide your email address so others can contact you.
Your flexibility with day/time and meeting duration requests will assist us in accommodating your side meeting needs. Please complete the online form to request a side meeting.
The Call for Side Meetings is now Closed.
Call for Posters
Poster sessions are an intentionally low-tech forum for the exchange of information and ideas about collaborations, projects and works-in-progress. The posters convey stories through the use of graphs, diagrams, pictures, data, and narrative text displayed on 2 foam core poster boards (each approx. 30" x 40"). The posters are on display near the meeting registration area continuously throughout the 3-day meeting; participants informally discuss their presentations with meeting attendees during the staffed hours for poster sessions. In addition, poster presenters are invited to display their posters in the hotel ballroom during the Monday evening Welcome Reception.
All categories of Internet2 membership—University, Corporate, Affiliate, R&E Network members and International MOU partners—are welcome to submit proposals for poster sessions. Each poster submission must contain:
- Title
- Institution or organization name
- Brief abstract
- Contact name and email address
Space is limited; posters will be considered on the basis of the following criteria:
- Degree of anticipated interaction and information sharing with meeting attendees; relevance of the discussion to advancing their work
- Impact of advanced networking and advanced applications, with an emphasis on things that are not possible or reasonable to do with the commodity Internet
- Demonstration of the value of Internet2 to its members and how advanced networking technologies further the mission of research, teaching and learning
Please review all details and submit the online form.
The Call for Posters is now Closed.
Call for Sponsors
Internet2 is inviting members to sponsor a reception, meals, and refreshment breaks during the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting. On Monday October 13, a Meeting Welcome Reception will be held at the hotel for all meeting attendees. In addition to reception events we seek support for meeting lunch and refreshment breaks.
Member meetings provide an opportunity for face-to-face dialogue among members of the Internet2 community. Meeting attendees are University and Corporate CIOs, top-level managers, and campus technical services implementers; last spring more than 660 attended our meeting in Arlington, VA.
Sponsorship of this set of activities provides an opportunity to increase visibility with the higher Education community. Sponsors will be acknowledged via signage at the event site, recognized in the published meeting program and on the meeting website. In addition we are open to suggestions regarding other ways in which we can acknowledge generous support.
If you would like to become a meeting sponsor or have any questions about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Ellen Vaughan.
Call for Habitat for Humanity Volunteers
Holding the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meetingin New Orleans provides Internet2 members the unique opportunity to give something back to the community. Internet2 is putting out a call for volunteers to work for Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, October 11. A typical day of volunteering for Habitat for Humanity extends from 7:45am to 3:15pm. Space for volunteer opportunities may be limited, so we are putting out an early call to gauge interest. If you are interested in volunteering on October 11, please complete this brief form.
Lodging and Transportation Info for Volunteers: For a nominal fee, Habitat for Humanity provides housing for volunteers at Camp Hope, a converted school where volunteers are provided room and board. In addition, volunteers are eligible for discounts at area hotels. Habitat for Humanity volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the work site. Habitat for Humanity does not assign volunteers until two weeks in advance, so we will not know the location of our work site until around September 27. More details on arrangements for volunteers will be forthcoming. In the meantime, the Habitat for Humanity volunteer FAQ should answer many of your questions.
Rather Make a Contribution? If volunteering won't work out for you, you can still help this important cause by making a donation to Habitat for Humanity.
