The Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting will take place 13 –16 October in New Orleans, Louisiana and will be hosted by Louisiana State University and the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI). The Call for Participation has been extended through 18 July and Internet2 is currently accepting proposals for track sessions, poster sessions, and advanced applications demonstrations. Internet2 is also inviting members to sponsor a reception, meals, and refreshment breaks during the member meeting. Meeting registration will open on July 28; be sure to register before 18 August to take advantage of the lowest rates.
The Fall Member Meeting will feature track sessions and demonstrations that highlight innovative uses of advanced networking for research and teaching, as well as the development and evolution of high-performance network infrastructures in support of local to global cyberinfrastructure. Track sessions and demonstrations will also showcase innovations in Business Continuity Planning and uses of advanced networking to provide telehealth and telemedicine services. General session presenters at the meeting will include Scott Cowen, President of Tulane University, who will describe the Tulane experience before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina, and Ed Seidel who will present "The Importance of Cyberinfrastructure." Seidel, Director of the LSU Center for Computation and Technology, was selected by the National Science Foundation to direct the Office of Cyberinfrastructure, a position he will start in September.
Holding the Fall Member Meeting in New Orleans provides Internet2 members the unique opportunity to give something back to the community. Internet2 is also putting out a call for volunteers to work for Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, 11 October.
The submission deadline for the Call for Participation has been extended to Friday, 18 July 2008.
