Spring 2006 Internet2 Member Meeting

Digital Infrastructure and Preservation - Challenges and Solutions

April 25, 2006, 8:45 AM - 10:00 AM

Location: Salons D/E

   Jim DeRoest, ResearchChannel
   Jane Johnson, Library of Congress
   William LeFurgy, Library of Congress

Session Abstract Information is being produced in greater quantities and with greater frequency than at any time in history. Electronic media, especially the Internet, make it possible for almost anyone to become a "publisher." How will society preserve this information and make it available to future generations? How will libraries and other repositories classify this information so that their patrons can find it with the same ease that they can locate a book on a shelf? What is the role of advanced networks? This session will provide an overview of the issues and concerns related to digital archiving and explore possible solutions.
