Spring 2006 Internet2 Member Meeting

Visions 05: Live HD Video Images from Seafloor to Land via IP-Based Networks

April 25, 2006, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Salon A

David D. Robertson, University of Washington
   Michael Wellings, ResearchChannel  [htm]  [ppt]

Session Abstract Visions 05, a University of Washington research vessel mission, exemplifies a next generation of research techinque in which data and images collected in harsh environment are immediately made available across IP networks. Direct observation of giant earthquakes, cavorting marine mammals, erupting volcanoes, massive landslides, and brilliant blooms of microscopic life-forms are not directly available for study. The session will describe the equipment, software, networking used to facilitate visual access and data collection from undersea black smoker ecologies 2500 meters below the Pacific surface. A video presentation produced about this mission will be part of this session.
