Internet2 hosted a design workshop focused on the new Internet2 national network on 15-16 June 2006 at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center in Indianapolis, IN. The workshop was attended by over 120 technical and executive staff representing both current and prospective connectors to the Internet2 national network infrastructure. The goal of the workshop was to a) provide more detailed information about the technical aspects of the new Internet2 national network plans announced by Internet2 on April 25 at the Arlington, VA Internet2 Member Meeting and b) to gain input from the technical community -- but particularly those organizations providing connections to the new Internet2 national network infrastructure for the community -- on several elements of the network's design and implementation. The workshop also featured detailed information sharing, individual and small group input, and further definition of services, such as layer 3, and long-term and dynamic point-to-point capabilities. Discussions about what community working groups need to form in order to continue work on definitions and technical aspects of these services also took place -- particularly as they relate to the interface between the national infrastructure and the access network infrastructure (i.e. state and regional network connectors) and their delivery to the campus.

New Network Advisory Group
Formed at the CDW and chaired by Paul Schopis of OARnet, the New Network Advisory Group was charged with outlining recommendations for a new technical advisory structure to facilitate the design, deployment, and development of the new Internet2 Network.
