Fall 2005 Internet2 Member Meeting

Network Story

Building the Network

Internet2 is a collaborative organization, so it is fitting that the Fall 2005 Internet2 Member Meeting is the result of an enormous combined effort that included member institutions, corporate members, Internet2 staff, and non-members alike. We would like to thank our co-hosts, the University of Pennsylvania and MAGPI, for providing the resources and leadership that has made the meeting network possible.

The commitment and energy dedicated to the meeting by the staff of the University of Pennsylvania and MAGPI were instrumental in ensuring a smooth network deployment. In particular, we would like to recognize: Greg Palmer, Dave Mongeluzi, Jeff Coke, Jeff Edwards, Shumon Huque, and Dave Tarampi. We are grateful to Mike Palladino and the members of the Information Systems and Computing, Networking and Telecommunications team at the University of Pennsylvania for their efforts to implement the meeting network.

Special thanks are due to Sunesys for generously providing the metropolitan fiber connections from the Qwest Communications demarcation point in Philadelphia to the Wyndham Hotel for Abilene Network connectivity and from the Wyndham Hotel to the MAGPI network for commodity and campus network connectivity. We would like to recognize Juniper Networks for their contribution of an M320 router that provides the core routing for the meeting and the additional OC192 interface to terminate the meeting circuit on the Abilene router in Washington , DC. Force10 Networks contributed an S50 switch to handle the core switching duties of the meeting network. We would like to thank Qwest for their continued support of the Internet2 member meetings. In addition, we appreciate the networking efforts that were made by Wayport on behalf of the Wyndham Philadelphia at Franklin Plaza to prepare the property for the meeting.
