Spring 2004 Internet2 Member Meeting
Network Story
The Spring 2004 Internet2 Member Meeting is a showcase for the collaborative
efforts of its members. The network for the meeting owes its success
to numerous member contributions. Chuck Wolfe of Georgetown University
and Dan Magorian of Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX) provided leadership
and worked to ensure that the networking infrastructure was properly
implemented. Special thanks is also due to the Georgetown UIS NTM group
that worked long hours in establishing and supporting the network.
Yet, there would be no network without important hardware and software
resources. Hewlett-Packard played a significant role in supporting
the meeting by providing numerous 2500, 2800, and 5300 class switches
used in the core and in connection of the session rooms. Cisco Systems
also graciously provided 1200 series wireless Access Points that allow
for 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g wireless standards.
Researchers from the Hewlett-Packard Cambridge Research Laboratory's
Metro project played a critical role in supporting the rich presence
trial by deploying an extensive WiFi-based location service throughout
the conference facility.
Finally, we greatly appreciate the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel
and STSN for their continued accommodation and assistance in making
the Spring 2004 Member Meeting a success.
