Spring 2004 Internet2 Member Meeting
April 19-21, 2004
Arlington, VA
Attendance Policy
Attendance at Member Meetings is a benefit of membership in Internet2.
Member Meetings are working meetings where representatives from universities,
corporations, government, research labs, educational organizations, and international
networking organizations come together to share progress and continue formulating
plans for future work.
Any organization that is a member of Internet2 may send an unlimited number
of representatives to the meeting. Non-members of Internet2 may also attend
the member meeting, however, attendance is limited to educationally-focused,
non-profit organizations who are actively participating in the Internet2
community such as: International MoU partners, representatives from SEGP
and Sponsored Participant programs, and invited speakers and guests. Registration
fees are applicable for all types of attendees, including most speakers.
Please see the registration form for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
What portion of Member Meeting costs do registration fees cover?
The member registration fee covers only about one-third of the expense for
each member attendee. Member dues underwrite the remaining expense. Full
cost recovery is obtained from non-member registration fees.
If Member Meetings are a benefit of membership, why are non-members
allowed to attend, even for a fee?
A key goal of Internet2 is to facilitate diffusion of new capabilities into
the larger research and education community. The SEGP and sponsored participant
programs have grown and are expected to continue growing. Member Meetings
are an excellent way to expose others collaborating with Internet2 members
to current work and plans, and attendance by selected non-members will help
support the transfer of new practices, tools and technologies into the global
production Internet. Member Meeting attendance in the non-member category,
however, is limited to educationally-focused, non-profit organizations who
are actively participating in the Internet2 community.
Will International MOU partners have to pay the non-member amount?
No. Representatives from international networking organizations that have
MOU agreements with Internet2 will be able to attend the Member Meetings
for a registration fee slightly higher than what members pay. While these
international organizations are not members of Internet2, they contribute
a substantial amount of the resource and effort required to create connections
for the research community that spans the globe. Internet2 receives significant
value from the participation of these international networking organizations
in our Member Meetings and in many other projects and activities.
What are your plans for future increases in Member Meeting registration
fees?
Meeting registration fees will likely increase over time in response to
inflationary factors. We will also work to contain costs, and avoid fee increases
to the extent possible. The Board of Trustees felt that some subsidy of member
attendance by member dues was appropriate, so members are likely to continue
to pay only a portion of the full cost.
