Fall 2004 Internet2 Member Meeting
NETWORK STORY
Building the Network
Internet2 is a collaborative organization so it is fitting that Internet2
Member Meetings are the result of an enormous collaborative effort that includes
member institutions, corporate partners, Internet2 staff, and non-members alike.
The commitment and energy that were dedicated to the meeting by the staff of
The University of Texas at Austin contributed to the successful network deployment.
In particular, Internet2 would like to recognize Wayne Wedemeyer, William Green,
John Kilgore, Frank Abernathy, Allison Thompson and the staffs of the UTNet and Office
of Telecommunication Services. The University
of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences also donated a portion of the
network equipment required to support this meeting.
Portions of this fall’s meeting are being hosted in two separate locations: the UT campus and Hilton hotel in downtown Austin. Through the generous donations and support of Internet2 corporate partner Cisco
Systems we are able to connect the hotel to the UTNOC at 10Gbps and allow for the network connectivity to the Abilene
backbone at OC48. Internet2 corporate sponsor Ixia has generously provided test equipment that was used to test the 10GE and OC48 links that connect the hotel network to the Abilene backbone.
Special thanks are due to Qwest Communications for their continued support of the Internet2 member meetings by facilitating the necessary connections to complete the circuits for this year’s meeting. Internet2 would like to thank Juniper
Networks for their ongoing support and all others whose efforts have made the Fall 2004 Internet2 Member Meeting possible.
