The Internet2 End-to-End Performance Initiative (E2Epi), in
the continuing effort to advance the creation of an end-to-end
measurement infrastructure, is hosting the second E2Epi Performance
Measurement Workshop following the Joint Techs Meeting in
Miami. End-to-end performance involves everything in the path,
including the perception of the end user, the applications
program, the operating system, the computer hardware, and
all portions of the local and wide area networks. Ideally,
to have a true measurement of end-to-end performance, we need
a measurement infrastructure that can provide information
on all these portions of the path. At the last workshop, there
were presentations on current work and progress was made to
define how measurement attributes would be defined and exchanged,
and a schema to structure them.
The upcoming workshop will focus on three major areas:
· Measurement Data Collection – Tools, Methods,
Attributes, Schema
· Data Repositories – Storage, Access, Management
· Data Analysis – Network Capabilities, Problem
Identification/Location
Presentations to review current projects and progress made
since the last workshop are scheduled for the first day. Breakout
sessions, to define near term goals and identify who can accomplish
them, are scheduled for the second day.
If you are working in this area, you are encouraged to attend
the workshop, share your experiences, and learn from others.
(NOTE: This is a separate event from Joint Techs –
a separate registration is required!) The fee for
this workshop is $150; as with the Joint Techs registration,
it must be paid in advance (registration closes January 24,
2003). The workshop will run from noon on February 5 through
noon on February 6 at the FIU campus. Transportation to and
from the campus will continue through this workshop. For more
information, contact Russ Hobby <rdhobby@internet2.edu>.
